Mission Statement

At Juneberry Woods Schoolhouse, we believe that every child deserves an education that recognizes their individuality, sparks their curiosity, and supports their full development. Our mission is to provide a nurturing, child-centered environment where learning is joyful, meaningful, and deeply personal.

As a progressive microschool, we specialize in individualized learning, hands-on activities, and collaborative, inquiry-based teaching methods. We honor each child’s unique learning style and pace, offering the flexibility and attention they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our small class sizes allow us to build strong, trusting relationships with students and families. Through engaging projects, outdoor exploration, and creative expression, we foster critical thinking, confidence, and compassion in every learner.

At Juneberry Woods, we are more than a school—we are a learning community committed to helping children grow into capable, curious, and kind individuals who are equipped to navigate the world with purpose and heart.

Educational Philosophy

At Juneberry Woods Schoolhouse, we believe that education should be child-centered, relationship-driven, and rooted in real-world experiences. Our philosophy is built upon the understanding that children learn best when they are active participants in their own learning journey—when they feel safe, seen, and inspired to explore.

We draw from progressive, research-based educational practices that value:

  • Individualized Learning: Every child is unique. We tailor instruction to support each student’s interests, strengths, and developmental readiness. Through flexible curriculum design and ongoing assessment, we help students set goals, reflect on their progress, and grow with confidence.
  • Hands-On, Experiential Learning: Children learn by doing. Our days are filled with opportunities for exploration, discovery, and creativity, through science experiments, nature walks, storytelling, artmaking, and building projects. We prioritize real-world connections and meaningful engagement.
  • Social-Emotional Growth: Emotional well-being is foundational to academic success. We intentionally teach skills like empathy, communication, and self-regulation; helping students build strong relationships and navigate challenges with resilience and care.
  • Play and Joy: We believe that play is essential to development—not a break from learning. Through imaginative play, open-ended materials, and time in nature, children learn problem-solving, cooperation, and creative thinking.
  • Community and Collaboration: Learning thrives in community. Our multi-age environment encourages mentorship, collaboration, and a sense of belonging. Teachers, families, and students work together to create a culture of respect, curiosity, and shared responsibility.

Above all, we aim to cultivate not only capable learners, but curious, compassionate humans who are excited to learn, unafraid to question, and ready to contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
